An inmate at a state prison unit in Morganton has received additional prison time after being convicted of spitting in the face of a corrections officer, according to prosecutors in Burke County.
The district attorney’s office said Davayon Traquell Jones, 21, of Durham, was convicted last week in Burke County Superior Court of malicious conduct by a prisoner. He was sentenced to between 17 and 30 months in prison.
Jones was charged in connection with an incident in March 2013 at the Foothills Correctional Institution in Burke County, according to authorities. State prison records show Jones was serving a sentence of three years and three months in prison for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
He had been scheduled for release from prison last November. The new release date was not available Tuesday.
