Driver charged in fatal Huntersville wreck

The driver of a vehicle in a Saturday crash that killed a passenger has been charged in the case, Huntersville police say.
Investigators said they have charged Evan Matthew Purtill, 22, with felony death by vehicle. Purtill was driving a vehicle that crashed about 2 a.m. Saturday in the 10400 block of McCoy Road, according to authorities.
Caleb William Reid, 20, a passenger in the vehicle, died in the crash.
Investigators said Purtill’s vehicle went off the road and rolled on its side. Purtill was thrown from the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. Rescue personnel found Reid inside the vehicle and said he died in the crash.
Huntersville police said they decided to charge Purtill after consulting with the District Attorney’s Office.
