Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested two men on charges of possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
The case involves trading a pair of rifles because one man wanted a dirt bike and another wanted a motorcycle, authorities said.
Scotty Shoemaker Jr. of Statesville and Joshua Patrum, 39, of Hiddenite, were each charged in the case.
The Sheriff’s Office said Shoemaker told authorities he was trying to sell a dirt bike so he could buy a motorcycle, then traded the dirt bike for two rifles from Patrum. Shoemaker also admitted to signing a female’s name to the bill of sale because of his prior conviction, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Shoemaker was arrested on Aug. 31 and Patrum was arrested on Sept. 4, the Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities seized the guns when they arrested Shoemaker.
Their prior convictions were not immediately available.
