Gaston County police released surveillance pictures on Friday of a woman they said passed a counterfeit $20 bill at the Kingsway No. 21 convenience store at 3615 Dallas-Cherryville Highway on Jan. 11.
The clerk marked the bill and then showed it to the other clerk working that afternoon, police said.
When the clerk told the woman the bill was counterfeit, police said, the woman reached into her wallet and handed the clerk a $10 bill that wasn’t counterfeit.
The woman paid for the items she was purchasing and left the store in a silver car, heading toward Cherryville on Dallas-Cherryville Highway, police said.

The suspect is white with auburn hair. She was wearing a light blue pullover jacket and was driving a silver Chevrolet Malibu.
