Maulik Sarin, an eighth-grader at Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy, was selected for the National Spanish Exam Global Citizen Scholarship.

Only 16 U.S. students received the honor. Maulik will receive a scholarship for a two-week Spanish immersion program through the Concordia Language Villages in Minnesota. He was chosen based on his scholarship application, which included his test results from the 2012 National Spanish Examination.

In the school’s first year of taking the exam, Scholars Academy sixth- through eighth-graders earned eight gold, five silver and 16 bronze medals, along with eight honorable mentions.
