Jay M. Robinson Middle, Myers Park High and Community House Middle won state championships May 4 at the Art Showcase and William Peace University N.C. Show Choir Competition in Kannapolis.

Robinson won six of the seven individual events in the competition presented by the North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities: Taylor Latham, painting; Teddy Perelli, drawing; Colette Page, printmaking; Alice Gu, collage; Mollie Wasserman, mixed media; Joey Jegier, marketing flyer. On the high school level, Cory Simpson of Kannapolis’ A.L. Brown High won in drawing; Larkin Schramm of Hickory High won in mixed media.

In Art Showcase, students created works in seven media types after receiving a prompt. Student winners were recognized in each media type and took home trophies and scores were combined to create a team score. Students from the top three schools took home medals and the top school took home the trophy.

Community House Middle won the choir competition for its performance of a choral suite from "West Side Story."
