Artwork by Charlotte Latin students Ann Bernhardt and Lauren McDowell were selected by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities and the U.S. Department of Education as exemplary, and the pieces will be on display in the year-long ART.WRITE.NOW.DC exhibit in Washington.
“Self Portrait” by Ann, a freshman, and “We Wear a Mask” by Lauren, a junior, previously earned Scholastic Gold Keys and national Gold Medals in the 2012-13 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition. These pieces are among only 58 chosen from national Scholastic award winners for the national exhibit.
Charlotte Latin junior Rachel Hargrave will also have her poetry – Bittersweet Symphony, Scrapbook, Timelord’s Burden, Wish Upon A Star and The Night After – included in the ART.WRITE.NOW.DC exhibit. Her poetry was selected for inclusion in “The Best Teen Writing 2013.”
