Ian Firth, a fourth-grader at Charlotte Country Day, has collected many hundreds of bottle caps in his fourth year of helping with a recycling effort at the school.

Ian collects bottle caps as a member of the Green Team, an environmental club for third- and fourth-graders. The caps are shipped to a plant that recycles them and makes new packaging for Aveda products.

He began taking part before he was a member of the Green Team, becoming interested when his sister was involved in the effort in fourth grade and he was a first-grader. Ian brought boxes of caps to his teachers to give to the Green Team. He collects from his immediate and extended family members, as well as his neighbors, as the leader of that effort.
