Fourth-grader Ket Barrington is on a pace to set a school record in Davidson Elementary’s Tigers on the Prowl program, a yearlong event promoting healthy choices and physical involvement.
In the program, started more than 10 years ago at Davidson, students are encouraged to exercise daily on the school track by walking, jogging or running laps. Eight laps on the track equal one mile; students attain marathon status when they reach 26.2 miles, or about 210 laps on the track.
As of Dec. 19, Ket completed more than 1,150 laps on the school track, equal to five marathons. The school record within a year is 10. Fellow fourth-graders Drew Adams and Jack Zimmerman were also among the first to reach marathon status.
