Gaston senior writes 2 Spanish plays

Gaston Day School senior Porter Yelton wrote two one-act plays in Spanish for his senior project as a way to encourage appreciation for the language and culture. Both plays – “La Cajita Azul” (“The Little Blue Box,” a drama) and “Estudiantes Atrapados” (“Trapped Students,” a comedy) – were performed at the school on Jan. 18.

Both plays – “La Cajita Azul” (“The Little Blue Box,” a drama) and “Estudiantes Atrapados” (“Trapped Students,” a comedy) – were performed at the school on Jan. 18.

Porter was helped by his Spanish teacher and a friend who is a native speaker. All students who were cast had at least two years of Spanish instruction, he said. The plays included English subtitles, and donations from audience members were given to local Latin American charities.
