Ardrey Kell wins N.C. state debate event

Ardrey Kell High won the Governor’s Cup overall sweepstakes at the Tarheel Forensic League state debate championships Feb. 28-March 1.
Ardrey Kell’s 179 points were highest among the 26 teams at Pinecrest High. Myers Park was next among Charlotte-area schools with 108 points, good for fourth overall. Providence High was sixth, followed in order by North Mecklenburg, Charlotte Catholic, Charlotte Latin and Central Cabarrus.
Jacob McHugh of Ardrey Kell was state champion in both Extemporaneous Speaking and Impromptu Speaking. Andrea Zhang and Sharnali Ghoshdastidar were 1-2 in in Original Oratory. Sharnali was second in Radio Speaking.
Myers Park’s Bo Carlson and Saigo Reddy finished first and second, respectively, in Novice Congressional Debate. Other Charlotte state champions are Providence’s Leah Mell in Dramatic Interpretation and David Herrmann of Charlotte Latin in Radio Speaking.
Other seconds: Hannah Wang, Myers Park, Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate; Brandon Greenblatt, Providence, Varsity Congressional Debate; Iris Brammer, Providence, Oral Interpretation; Ian Miller, Charlotte Catholic, Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate; Camara Hill and Antonio Rivera, North Mecklenburg, Duo Interpretation.
