Charlotte-area Future Problem Solvers win, advance

Smithfield Elementary student Chadley Gray Schmidt finished first in the individual category at the junior level, and Charles Timm of South Mecklenburg High won at the middle level at the N.C. Future Problem Solver competition.

A South Mecklenburg team of former Smithfield students and current ninth-graders Samantha Dukes, Brandon Sanders and Jimmy Watkins won and will compete with other first-place winners in the international division at the FPS international conference at Iowa State University in June.

Two teams with students from South Meck, Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy and Charlotte Latin won a bid to the conference in the middle division (grades 7-9). A Scholars Academy team won a bid in the junior division.
