When Charlotte last hired a city manager in 2013, the public was invited to meet the three finalists.
This year, the City Council is taking a different approach.
Concerned about leaks to the news media, council members and Mayor Jennifer Roberts plan to interview city manager candidates Tuesday morning at the Omni Hotel on Trade Street.
Roberts called a special council meeting for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the lobby of the hotel. At that point, council members will vote to go into closed session, presumably to interview candidates in secret.
“City Council is in the middle of the extensive process of searching for the next Charlotte City Manager. This process may look different than it has in past years in an effort to protect the integrity and confidentiality of the candidates,” said the city’s corporate communications office.
