State Sen. Joel Ford released a poll this week that shows him leading the Democratic primary for mayor – a sharp contrast to a poll earlier this summer by Mayor Jennifer Roberts’ campaign that showed him third.
Ford said the automated poll showed him with 26 percent of the vote, Roberts with 19 percent, Mayor Pro Tem Vi Lyles with 9 percent, and 40 percent undecided. Roughly 20,000 people were contacted and 700 likely voters participated in the poll, according to Ford’s campaign. The poll has a margin of error of 2.5 percent, according to ATC Voter Systems of Washington, D.C., which conducted the poll.
Roberts’ poll showed the mayor ahead with 35 percent of primary voters, Lyles with 21 percent and Ford trailing at 15 percent.
The primary is Sept. 12. Early voting starts Aug. 24.
