February is on track to be one of the warmest if not the warmest Februaries on record. In keeping with higher temperatures many flowers and trees, like Bradford Pear trees, are in full bloom. The weather forecast for the March 1st calls for a chance of showers and a high near 80 degrees continuing the unseasonable late winter warming.
The Carolina Raptor Center puts on a flight show every weekend of the summer starting Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. The small amphitheater holding around 80 people makes for an intimate experience as birds of prey fly inches above visitors heads.
The UNC-Charlotte's McMillan Greenhouse held it's second annual celebration of carnivorous plants on Saturday morning. The event included fun activities ranging from face painting to Venus fly trap feeding. The day is aimed at educating young kids on carnivorous plants through a hands on and interactive way
On Friday, 16 campers, ages 7-13, wrapped up a week of culinary camp by preparing a meal for family members at Chef Alyssa's Kitchen. The menu included roasted chicken with BBQ sauce and the fixing's including a watermelon popsicle for dessert.
