The weekend weather in the Charlotte area will start off mostly sunny but could end in some much-needed rain, the National Weather Service said.
There is a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms Friday and Friday night. As a slow-moving cold front approaches the area, the chance of rain will increase, said Neil Dixon, a meteorologist in the weather service’s Greer, S.C. office.
Weekend temperatures will be in the mid-80s, which is a little above the average temperature of 82 degrees, Dixon said.
Saturday will be mostly sunny, while Sunday will see a 30 percent chance of showers throughout the day.
Never miss a local story.
“Sunday could end up pretty wet,” Dixon said.
He said the chance for showers across the Charlotte region increases to 40 to 50 percent on Monday and Tuesday.
And that is actually good news for the area, Dixon said.
Rainfall measured at Charlotte Douglas International Airport for the month has only totaled 0.32 inches, which is a little less than 2 1/2 inches below normal for May, Dixon said.
“Hopefully by Tuesday there will be very beneficial rainfall,” he said.
