Shining moment for CLT

In politics, sometimes disappointing things happen. When I was 14 a TV crew filmed me asleep on the floor of then-9th District candidate D.G. Martin’s headquarters election night as hours ticked by in a race too close to call. My mother had worked tirelessly on his campaign. Finally the news came: a heartbreaking loss by 321 votes.

But even when things don’t turn out as you’d hoped, you keep going and focus on the positive. As a native Charlottean, that’s easy to do today – because of the nonpartisan Donor Volunteer Ambassadors, those energetic women who came together and walked the “open and accessible” walk by organizing support for events; because of the artists and entrepreneurs at The PPL who created and inspired and entertained; because of the CATS workers out in the street with maps to direct visitors.

Because of that Queen City spirit, we accomplished something spectacular this week.

Overwhelming events push you out of your comfort zone and show you what you can do. We now know we have it in us to come together with energy, enthusiasm and proficiency. Now, the only question is: What shall we take on next?
