In response to "30 McCrory precincts powered Foxx victory" (Nov. 5) and related articles:
Foxx mayoral election brought out straight-ticket 'lemmings'
The election proved many voters are nothing but a bunch of lemmings who don't know the issues, only how to vote straight ticket. I hope they enjoy seeing higher taxes and more businesses leaving the Queen City as this newly-elected Democratic leadership begins its dismantle of this once wonderful city.

In response to "Foxx pledges to sign climate agreement" (Nov. 6):
Foxx headed down dangerous path backing climate change
The first thing our new mayor wants to sign us up for is climate change. With a stroke of a pen we'll be committed to a plan we never voted on and that is based on opinions - not provable facts.
Emotion and feeling good about doing something is the battle cry of the moment. Seems we felt just as good about doing something for the poor when Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac instituted "creative" home loans.
When are the 70 percent who couldn't be troubled to vote going to accept their responsibility as a citizen of this city, state and country? What are you afraid of? Making a decision...

In response to "Foxx tells Obama Charlotte needs BofA" (Nov. 6):
Myrick should have known about BofA headquarters move
Congresswoman Sue Myrick represents some of the wealthiest ZIP codes in the Charlotte area. Her constituency is made up of many Bank of America employees, folks who work indirectly for the bank and many who've amassed fortunes as a result of the bank.
Yet, her office reported she "has not heard" BofA might be contemplating a headquarters move and therefore "has not been working on the issue."
This is pathetic. I hope next election, people will remind her of this ignorance by voting someone else into office.

In response to "Obama, House Dems rush to get health care votes" (Nov. 6):
Count me out; this doctor opposes health care bill
The American Medical Association does not represent me or the vast majority of physicians in this country. Less than 19 percent of physicians are members.
The House bill does not have the backing of the doctors, despite President Barack Obama's claim to the contrary.

Hope health care reform isn't a repeat of Cash for Clunkers
My 1993 Ford pickup was excluded from Cash for Clunkers because I made a responsible decision to purchase and drive a fuel efficient vehicle.
But, you could trade in a gas guzzler for a monster vehicle having a lower EPA mileage rating than my truck and still get the government handout (partially funded by me, of course).
Let's hope those who authored this plan are not working on health care reform.

Keep Dilworth performing and visual arts magnet at Dilworth
The writer is a Dilworth Elementary School parent.
Why move Dilworth Arts, a school that has only been settled in its new environment for three years and is just hitting its stride?
It isn't fiscally responsible to spend $400,000 (CMS estimated cost) to prepare First Ward Elementary for arts. It's not reasonable to relocate 1,000 students, teacher and staff for the sake of 100 or so Eastover students.
One solution is to expand the priority attendance zones at Elizabeth Traditional, Myers Park Traditional, Dilworth Arts and Park Road Montessori magnets to create room for the Eastover students while still maintaining full magnet status. This, combined with other measures, would ease overcrowding without large expense.

In response to "Gorman 2014 plan: Tie teacher pay to progress" (Nov. 6):
Parents, not just teachers,
to blame for failing students
Basing a teacher's pay on the performance of students is a ridiculous idea. Teachers spend a relatively small portion of time with students. Parents have to accept the responsibility of helping with homework, etc. That's obviously not happening with ill-performing students.
I remember when teachers taught, students listened, tests and exams were given, and you passed or failed.
Now, teachers spend their time teaching the EOG tests and little is learned from that.

In response to "Wall Street gets swine flu vaccine" (Nov. 6):
Wall Street flu shots no shot in the arm for vaccine credibility
With swine flu vaccine in short supply, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup employees could just take aspirin until more of the masses have been served. And let's not forget vaccinating people in federal prisons, like Bernie Madoff. Credibility on the distribution and manufacturing of this vaccine has been ridiculous.

Mayor McCrory's leadership made Charlotte a better place
I want to thank Mayor Pat McCrory for his hard work and leadership through the past 14 years. It hasn't been easy with a Democratic majority on the council, but his vision and perseverance won out. He brought Charlotte further than those who preceded him.
