GOP plans event today, too

By Steve Lyttle

Charlotte-area Republicans will counter today's visit to the area by Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama by staging a big campaign event of their own.

The GOP rally is scheduled from 6:15-8:15 p.m. today at Jay M. Robinson Middle School, 5925 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, in southeast Charlotte. That is between Providence Road and Rea Road.

Republicans plan to have several of their high-profile candidates at today's event, which includes a barbecue dinner and live music. Among candidates expected to attend are U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole; Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, who is running for Governor; and U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick.

Admission to the rally is $5 a person ... with a $15 limit per family. Children 4 and younger are admitted free. Tickets will be on sale at the door, or you can buy them at the Mecklenburg Republican Party headquarters, 1515 Mockingbird Lane, Suite 213.

The GOP rally will take place a short time after Obama's appearance at UNC Charlotte.
