Everyone will be talking politics

Your guide to a month of speeches by those vying for mayor, city council, school board.

This will be a busy week in a busy month for Democrat Anthony Foxx, Republican John Lassiter and other Charlotte-area candidates.

Less than a month before the Nov. 3 election, the two mayoral hopefuls will square off several times across town.

Crowded fields for city council and Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board also have full schedules.

Here's a partial list of upcoming forums and debates as furnished by the campaigns or the host groups. Some are open to the public; some only to the group's members.

Tuesday, 7-8 p.m.: Mayoral speak to the Charlotte Junior Chamber of Commerce, Holiday Inn Center City, 230 North College St. E-mail charlottejunior@gmail.com.

Wednesday, 1-3 p.m.: Charlotte Chamber mayoral debate, Pinehurst Cardinal Ballroom, Pinehurst Golf & Country Club, Pinehurst.

Wednesday, 7-8:30 p.m.: Queens University mayoral debate (to be rebroadcast on WFAE-FM); Dana Auditorium, Queens University, 1900 Selwyn Ave. The college is soliciting questions in advance. E-mail them to charlottemayor@queens.edu. Include your full name and a daytime phone number.

Wednesday, 7-8 p.m.: MeckEd debate for District 2 school board candidates, Olympic High, 4301 Sandy Porter Road.

Thursday, noon-1:30 p.m.: Mayoral candidates speak to the Mecklenburg County Bar Association, First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Trade St.

Thursday, 6:30-7:45 p.m.: Mayoral candidates at Charlotte Area Bicycle Alliance, Dowd YMCA, 400 E. Morehead St.

Friday, 7-8:15 p.m.: Mayoral candidates, First Ward Neighborhood group, Trinity Episcopal School, 750 E. 9th St.

Oct. 12, 7-8 p.m.: MeckEd debate for District 5 school board candidates, Whitehead Manor, 5910 Sardis Road.

Oct. 13, 8 a.m.-10: Tuesday Morning Breakfast Forum for at-large candidates, West Charlotte Recreation Center, 2400 Kendall Drive.

Oct. 13, 7-9 p.m.: Mayoral and at-large council candidates at East Charlotte forum, Amity Presbyterian Church, 2831 N. Sharon Amity Road.

Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m.-8:30: At-large candidates at Charlotte Country Day School, sponsored by Teenage Republicans and Democrats clubs.

Oct. 14, 7:30-9 p.m.: Mayoral candidates at Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Ramses Temple, 4919 Beatties Ford Road.

Oct. 14, 7-8:30 p.m.: MeckEd debate for District 3 school board candidates, First Ward Recreation Center, 610 E. Seventh St.

Oct. 15, 7-8:30 p.m.: MeckEd debate for District 6 school board candidates, Providence High, 1800 Pineville-Matthews Road.

Oct. 15, 5:30-7 p.m.: City and school board candidate reception, at the Charlotte Chamber, open to members.

Oct. 15, 6:30-8 p.m.: Mayoral and council candidates invited to speak to Homeless Helping Homeless at the Urban Ministry Center, 945 No. College St.

Oct. 18, 9.a.m.: Mayor and council candidates at Temple Israel, 4901 Providence Road.

Oct. 18, 9-11 a.m.: Candidate forum for the men's clubs of Temple Beth El and Temple Israel, at Temple Israel, 4901 Providence Road.

Oct. 19, 11:30-1:30 p.m.: Values for America luncheon, Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road. Open to Boy Scouts and guests.

Oct. 20, 6-8 p.m.: Kids Voting school board forum, ImaginOn Theater, 300 E. 7th St.

Oct. 20, 7-8 p.m.: WBTV and Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, mayoral candidates, Sam Lerner Center, Shalom Park, 5007 Providence Road. To be televised live.

Oct. 22, 8-11 a.m.: Mayoral and council candidates at the Council on Aging, WTVI, 3242 Commonwealth Ave.

Oct. 22: Mallard Creek Barbecue; not a forum, but a good chance to see the candidates; 11400 Mallard Creek Road.

Oct. 22, 7:00-8:30 p.m.: Mayoral and at-large council candidates speak to Helping Empower Local People (HELP), Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Road,

Oct. 27, 12-1:30 p.m.: Mayoral candidates at the Rotary Club of Charlotte, Crowne Plaza Hotel, 201 S. McDowell St.

Oct. 28, 8-9 p.m.: Live televised mayoral debate, WCNC-TV and Charlotte Observer, McGlohon Theatre at Spirit Square, 130 N. Tryon St. Open to the public.
