Keyshawn Woods is the Observer’s All-Mecklenburg boys basketball player of the year. The girls player of the year is split between two state champions: Myers Park junior Rydeiah Rogers and Providence Day’s Jatarie White.

North Carolina high school basketball: Shelby’s Gabe DeVoe, a senior Clemson recruit, is the Charlotte Observer’s All-Region boys player of the year. Weddington’s Stephanie Watts, a junior North Carolina commit, repeats as girls All-Region player of the year.

Charlotte Christian’s baseball team not only beat two of Mecklenburg County’s best public school teams Thursday night, but did it convincingly – a down-to-the-wire, 1-0 victory against Providence, followed by a 10-2 drubbing of defending NCHSAA 4A state champion South Mecklenburg.

East Mecklenburg rewarded itself for playing clean baseball. The Eagles made a two-run first inning stand up in a 2-0 win Wednesday against North Mecklenburg at the Spring Break Classic at East Mecklenburg’s Dave Jones Field.
