Senior halfback Mike Huff rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns as Olympic beat host West Mecklenburg 56-18 Friday night .
"Our goal was to play focused football the last three weeks," said Olympic coach Barry Shuford. "I thought our offense played really well the entire game."
West Mecklenburg (1-10, 1-5 ME-GA 7 3A/4A) looked to have the momentum early as James Barber hit Jahmeek Daniels on a 34-yard pass that set up a 7-yard Daniels touchdown for a 6-0 lead.
From there, the Trojans (9-2, 6-0) dominated the half with an explosive running game and solid passing.
Huff showed his explosiveness on the first Olympic possession by rushing for 30 yards on four carries and a score from 7 yards to give the Trojans a 7-6 lead. Huff then broke off a 55-yard run for a 14-6 lead.
The Trojans ended the quarter's scoring with a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown by Mark Grant.
"The last three weeks, it seems like we have had a big defensive score," said Shuford. "We have really done well at getting tough defensive stops or turnovers when we have needed them, and that will be big going forward in the playoffs."
The Hawks put up their best drive of the night, going 85 yards on 11 plays, capped by another Daniels touchdown run.
Olympic struck right back, as Raheim Jennings broke off another big play of 39 yards for a touchdown, and quarterback Lucas Beatty hit Anthony Henderson from 15 and 4 yards out on successive drives for a 42-12 lead at the break.
The Trojans then went to the ground again, and it was a big play by Huff, who raced 75 yards for his third touchdown.
Beatty found Henderson again with a 28-yard bomb for the pair's third touchdown pass in the game.
"This is a good win for us," said coach Shuford. "We know that we have some things that we can work on going forward, but we showed some diversity tonight, and that really made a difference for us.:
