Mecklenburg teams blanked

Mecklenburg County only had two top five runners at Saturday's N.C. 4A cross country championships at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons.

Myers Park's Becca Deloache was fourth (18:53.22) behind champion Laura Hoer of Skyland Roberson (18:13.01). Ardrey Kell's Kaitlyn Kramer was fifth (18:53.81).

Raleigh Green Hope was the team title. Among area schools, Watauga was sixth, Ardrey Kell was 11th and Lake Norman 13th.

In the 4A boys' meet, East Forsyth's Patrick Crawford won in a time of 15:47.11. Mooresville's Josh Cox was 10th (16:14). Raleigh Sanderson won the team title. Myers Park was fifth and Ardrey Kell ninth.

In the 3A girls' meet, Charlotte Catholic's Jamie Vezolles finished third (19:44.18) behind champion Sarah Rapp of Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons (19:29.50). Hickory Ridge's Teal McLean (20:01.80) was eighth.

Chapel Hill won the girls' championship. Marvin Ridge was third, Weddington was fourth and Charlotte Catholic finished sixth.

Eastern Alamance's Jake Hurysz won the 3A boys' event (15:49.77), beating Marvin Ridge's Chris Colo (15:57.44). Kannapolis Brown's Larry Scaggs was ninth (16:54.99).

In the team event, Chapel Hill was first. Marvin Ridge finished fourth, Charlotte Catholic was fifth and East Rowan 10th.

East Wilkes Carol Blakenship (18:59.30) won the 1A girls' meet. Monroe Gray Stone Day's Hunter Latimer was seventh. Robbinsville won the team title. Gray Stone Day was fifth, Lake Norman Charter sixth.

Mount Airy's Matus Kriska was boys' champion (16:34.13). Gray Stone Day's Dalton Wally (16:47.33) was second. South Stanly's Sean Kluttz (16:57.41) was third; teammate Alex Thompson (17:14.46) was sixth. Gray Stone Day's Kaleb Medlin (17:18.17) was 10th.

Gray Stone Day won the boys' 1A championship. Lake Norman Charter was sixth. South Stanly was eighth.

North Henderson's Catie Byrd (19:43.74) won the 2A girls' event. Carrboro won the team title. North Lincoln was third and Salisbury was fourth.

Wilkes Central's Chase Miller (16:35.93) won the 2A boys' title. East Lincoln's Brather Cline (17:12.38) was fourth, one spot ahead of Lincolnton's Travis Franklin (17:16.54). Salisbury's Nick Summers (17:23.93) was seventh and teammate Philip Tonseth (17:25.15) was ninth.

East Lincoln won the team title. Lincolnton finished eighth and Cuthbertson was 10th.
