Mount Pleasant rolls past Concord

Seymour throws3 touchdown passes to lead the Tigers.

MOUNT PLEASANT

Evan Seymour and Andrew Carroll connected on three touchdown passes, all over 30 yards, as host Mount Pleasant pulled away from Concord after halftime, winning 42-27 Friday in a nonconference high school football game.

Carroll's first-half scoring catches of 33 and 49 yards gave the Tigers (1-1) a 13-7 lead, but two touchdowns by Roger Smith, a 16-yard pass and 10-yard run, gave Concord (0-1) a 14-13 half time lead.

Mount Pleasant nearly recovered the lead before halftime as it drove 57 yards to Concord's 8. On first down, Seymour hit Dalton Brandon in the left flat but Smith forced a fumble and recovered it with 47 seconds left in the quarter.

Michael Furr had runs of 53 and 27 yards to set up two touchdowns as the Tigers pulled away in the third quarter. Haywood Forte completed a 93-yard drive to open the quarter with a 1-yard plunge, then Seymour connected with Brandon on a 20-yard touchdown pass and a 27-14 lead.

The next Concord drive fizzled at the Mount Pleasant 17 and four plays later Carroll caught a pass at the Spiders' 25 and cruised in for a 58-yard score.

Seymour completed his first five passes and finished 13-of-16 for 278 yards and four touchdowns. Carroll caught six passes for 182 yards.

Furr gained 113 yards after halftime and finished with 134. The Tigers gained 506 yards and 17 first downs.

The Tigers had four scoring drives of at least 65 yards and never punted, but lost three second-half fumbles, four for the game, and allowed Concord to score two late TDs.

While Concord was exchanging scores with Mount Pleasant in the first half, quarterback Sean Willix was outdueling Seymour.
