Q:iam 52 yrs old in menopuase. i have been eating really healthy and exercising 6 days a week 20 minutes cardio every other day and weights the other days been doing this for 4 weeks the scale shows no weight loss. i had a check up and my thyroid is fine.. why am i not losing weight how can i change my exercise to get the scale go down. i want to lose 15 lbs. 5ft2 i weigh 155
A: You need to increase your cardio workout. To lose weight you need to exercise for 45-60 minutes 5 times week. You are on the right track to add weight training 2 times a week for at least 30 minutes. By increasing the time you exercise, you should start to see some results. Remember that 1/2 to 2 pounds per week is a healthy normal weight loss...don't look for miracles.

Q:I purchased A TC3000 treadclimber and my calibration process failed. I tried to restart but nothing changed.
A: You need to contact the manufacturer and get them to provide service for your machine. Your best bet is to always purchase exercise equipment from a specialty fitness store that services everything that they sell.

Q:My 12 year old daughter has been struggling with her weight recently. She is 5'1 and went from 132 this past summer to 140 lbs today. She is very active, taking Tae Kwondo 3 days a week since last October and actively participating in P.E. everyday at school. She also does a 20 minute core targeting aerobics video 4 times a week. She does not eat any junk food and I prepare a healthy lunch for her to take to school everyday. She doesn't look as heavy as the scale measures and the only problem area she has is her midsection. Her father and older half-sister has pudgy midsections so we figured that it was just genetics. Her father is also very athletic and has lean, muscular limbs like she does, but has the problem stomach area. Is this normal for my daughter? Does she weigh 140 lbs due to added muscle with all of the activity she participates in? She has always been a strong child.
A: I am not qualified to answer all the questions that you raise. Schedule an appointment with your daughter's pediatrician. He or she should be able to give you a better assessment and advise you on diet and exercise.

Q:Hi. I'm a 21 year old female. I am very active working out every day of the week for 60 minutes. A year and a half ago before I started exercising regularly, I severely restricted my diet and began to exercise. I tried to eat more and quickly gained weight. Recently, although I am still exercising 60+ minutes every day, my weight has jumped from 112 to 132. I'd like to healthfully get back to the 112-115 region. How do you suggest I do this?
A: All that exercise is probably building more muscle in your body. Added muscle can actually increase your weight with out increasing your size. You didn't mention how tall you were. If your clothes still fit, I wouldn't worry about it.

Q:how can i lose 35 pounds in 3 weeks without diet pills
A: There is nothing that you can do that is healthy to try to drop that much weight in 3 weeks. Whatever you attempt, you will not be able to continue for the rest of your life and the weight will all come back on...probably a few extra pounds too! Stick to a goal of .5 to 2 pounds of weight loss per week.

Q:I'm a 5ft 6 female and weigh 115 pounds. I really don't want to loose weight but would like to tone up the muscles in my legs and stomach. Can you suggest any good exercises for this, I've started running for half an hour each day on the tread mill but all this seems to be doing is dropping pounds I really can't afford to loose.
A: YOu need to start doing some strength training...working out with weights. Squats and lunges, holding dumbbells is a great way to tone your legs and fanny and add some muscle. Ab workouts with medicine balls is a great way to tone that area of your body. Visit www.superiorfitness.com and visit the Online Magazine. Click on the page for BODY. You will find a video encylopedia of exercises there. check out the ones for abs and legs.

Q:hello im 125-130 lbs and im also 5 foot 3 inches tall and i have been concerding loosing about 10-20 more pounds and i was just wondering if where im at is a healthy weight or should i loose more....i excerise almost everyday bydoin about 900 crunches 2 to 3 times a day....im doing these because i ahve lost about 75 pounds and i have alot of exces skin which brings me to my next question which is with all those crunches will my skin firm back up
A: Crunches will not tighten skin...only muscles (under the skin). When we are grossly overweight our skin stretches out and often loses it's elasticity. When we lose this extra weight, the skin is unable to return to its normal size...like a rubber band that has over stretched and is now larger. Surgery is the only remedy for large amounts of excess skin from major weight loss.

Q:I am 5'4 and now weigh 145 pounds, I recently started dieting and excersiing and have lost 14 pounds. Before my diet and excercise consisted of eating Jenny Criag and walking on a treadmill on an incline at a fast pace for half an hour, doing a 40 min excercise tape, and doin 100 crunches, 10 pushups, and 10 leg lifts dialy. Due to a recent move my routine has changed I now prepare my own low calorie meal( 1200-1500), do pilates for 2 hrs, ride a stationary bike for an hour, still do the 100 crunches, 10 pushups, 10 leg lifts and have added other ab workouts, and am even attempting to start walking in the morning. Are my numerous crunches and ab workout making a difference because I haven't yet seen results and is my change in diet and excercise the reason why weight loss has stopped, what do you recommend?
A: There are a variety of reasons that you may have hit a weight loss plateau. When you do exactly the same workout week after week after week, your body adapts to it and eventually stops changing. Switching up your workout (like you did with your move) is actually beneficial. I have no idea what your "form" is like on your crunches, pushups and leg lifts. My guess is if you can complete 100 crunches...they might not all be doing what you hope. Also everybody has a "set point" for their weight. You may have hit it at 145. You might eventually get below it, but it could be very difficult to maintain it. Just stay focused on eating healthy and exercising regularly.

Q:I weigh 170 and I want to lose down to 155 at 1500 calories a day. how long will it take me to lose to that weigt.
A: I can't completely answer that question, as I don't know if you plan on exercising a few times a week too. Healthy...permanent weight loss is .5 to 2 pounds/week. You're probably talking about 8 to 12 weeks. Trust me...it will be worth the wait!

Q:I am 38 yrears old and at 5'2 I weight about 125. I'm not unhappy with this weight. But, I sit at a keybord all day long and my lower half is expanding. I just want my clothes to fit better. Will 25 minutes a day on an elliptical do the trick?
A: If you are doing absolutely no exercise right now...any cardio activity for 25-30 minutes per day will make a BIG difference!

Q:Im 5'5 and i weigh 129 pounds. i'm not over weight but i want to get my body back at 115 pounds. I do 30mins cardio and a round of strength training at the gym twice a day, 4 times a week. I want a low body fat percentage and become lean, with more muscle definition. What should i eat throughout the day to help get more definition without bulk?
A: If you workout at the gym, you should talk to one of the trainers there. They can make eating recommendations. What you eat will not impact your definition, as what you do with your strength training. The heavier weights with low reps will cause the muscles to bulk up more than lighter weights with higher reps. Rest assured that as a woman you don't have enough testosterone to look like a male bodybuilder.
