Duke senior Anthony Boone and East Carolina senior Shane Cardenhave been selected to the preseason watch list for the Manning Award, presented annually to the top quarterback in the country.
Last year, Boone, a 6-foot, 225-pound native of Weddington, completed 206-of-322 passes for 2,260 yards with 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while rushing 66 times for 214 yards and five additional scores. In the ACC, he ranked third in completions per game (18.73), third in pass completion percentage, sixth in passing yards per game (205.5), sixth in total offensive yards per game (224.9), eighth in points responsible per game (10) and eighth in pass efficiency.
Against Texas A&M in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, he established Duke bowl game records for pass completions (29), pass attempts (45), passing yardage (427), total offensive yards (454) and TD responsibility (four) while matching the school record for passing TDs (three).
Carden, who was named Conference USA’s Most Valuable Player in 2013, passed for an ECU single-season record 4,139 yards and completed an FBS second-best 70.5 percent (387-of-549) of his passes with 33 touchdowns. He The also ran for 10 scores.

Carden, who was the conference’s player of the week four times last season, engineered a Pirate offense that racked up 500 yards or more of total offense five times.
Nationally, Carden ranked among the top 15 in completion percentage (second), completions per game (fifth), points responsible for per game (fifth), total points responsible for (sixth), passing yards (seventh), passing yards per game (eighth), passing TDs (ninth) and total offense (14th).
Carden has also earned inclusion on the Davey O’Brien Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, College Football Performance Quarterback Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award Watch Lists heading into the 2014 campaign.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting.
