Inside the SEC: 08.30.14

The country will get a look at skilled LSU freshman running back Leonard Fournette against the Badgers. Tigers coach Les Miles actually compared Fournette to Michael Jordan recently.

Three to watch

West Virginia vs. No. 2 Alabama (at Atlanta), 3:30 p.m. (ABC, WSOC, Ch. 9)

Crimson Tide actually trying to avoid a three-game losing streak after dropping ’13 regular-season finale to Auburn and Sugar Bowl to Oklahoma.

Arkansas at No. 6 Auburn, 4 p.m. (SEC Network)

Quarterback Nick Marshall won’t start for Auburn, which again will contend in Western Division. Marshall was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana this summer and is suspended indefinitely.

No. 16 Clemson at No. 12 Georgia, 5:30 p.m. (ESPN)

Bulldogs play the first of two season-opening games against South Carolina teams – Gamecocks are Sept. 13 in Columbia.

Observations

• It’s a big opening weekend for the SEC. Another huge game is in Baton Rouge, where No. 14 is host to No. 15 Wisconsin.
• Florida’s Will Muschamp is likely coaching for his job this season after going 4-8 last season. The Gators are going against Idaho on Saturday.
• Alabama coach Nick Saban likes both of his quarterbacks – Florida State-transfer Jacob Coker and Blake Sims – and didn’t decide on making Sims the starter until Friday.

Number to know

11 Consecutive SEC losses for Arkansas.
