Davis raising his game
The good thing about heralded freshman John Henson's slow development (3.6 ppg, 2.9 rpg) is that it has halted all of that "one-year-and-done" talk. But whether sophomore Ed Davis (15.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg) becomes UNC's next two-and-done early entry into the NBA will likely depend on how he fares in ACC play - which begins Sunday against Virginia Tech.
Although Davis needs to add more offensive moves to his defensive energy, pro scouts are salivating over his athleticism (43 blocks) and potential. Barring some unforeseen slump or injury, he's projected as a top-10 pick - at least. But his father, former NBA player Terry Davis, knows better than most what to expect from the pro league, and he will be watching carefully as Ed faces the likes of Georgia Tech's Gani Lawal and Derrick Favors and Florida State's Solomon Alabi before determining whether he's ready for the next step.
