Donald Williams, most outstanding player of the 1993 Final Four, had his jersey honored at halftime Tuesday. Smartly, the name above the new No. 21 in the rafters includes the first initial "D" - as to distinguish in from Jawad Williams, who played on the 2005 team also wearing No. 21.
"Great feeling, I'm happy for myself - but I'm just as happy for that '93 team,'' said Williams, who now coaches at St. Mary's High in Raleigh. "Every time I look up there, and see that banner, I think about how proud we were, and what we accomplished."
Indiana Pacers rookie Tyler Hansbrough was in the crowd, back to cheer on former teammates Marcus Ginyard, Deon Thompson and Marc Campbell on senior night.
As per senior night tradition, walk-ons Thomas Thornton and James Gallagher joined scholarship seniors Ginyard, Thompson and Campbell in the starting line-up, while the sixth senior, walk-on Terrence Petree, joined the other five on the court until just before the jump ball. Petree was also inserted into the game for the final minute.
