Ardrey Kell has lost to No. 13 Hough and No. 9 Myers Park by a combined 11 points. The Knights have beaten West Mecklenburg two years in a row and in what looks to be a tight league race – four SoMeck schools are ranked in the Sweet 16 – neither team can afford an early conference loss.
Providence Day (2-3, 0-0 CISAA) at No. 10 Charlotte Latin (5-0, 0-0), Friday, 7: A huge conference rivalry game to kick off league play. The Chargers have won two of their past three games after a slow start. Latin is averaging more than 41 points per game but was upset 33-21 by Providence Day last season.
China Grove Carson (3-1, 2-0 South Piedmont 3A) at Concord Robinson (4-1, 3-1), Friday, 7:30: Both teams have legitimate league title hopes, but Robinson cannot afford another conference loss. Carson has won three games in a row.
Alexander Central (4-0, 0-0 North Piedmont) at South Iredell (3-1, 0-0), Friday, 7:30: South Iredell has won three in a row, but its defense will face a big test. Alexander Central averages more than 64 points per game. In the past two weeks, the Cougars have scored 157.

North Mecklenburg (2-3, 0-0 MECKA) at A.L. Brown (3-1, 0-0), Friday, 7:30: The Wonders begin their final tour through the difficult MECKA conference. Brown – which had a bye last week – rejoins the 3A South Piedmont league next year. North Meck has lost two of its past three games. The Vikings have not beaten Brown in the three years the Wonders have been a MECKA league member.
