Charlotte Latin is still unbeaten and looking unbeatable.
The Hawks roared by Providence Day 56-15 in a CISAA game Friday at Latin to remain unbeaten after six games. The Hawks dominated in every aspect, piling up 495 yards on offense, with the rushing attack churning out 316 yards on 41 carries.
Running back DeMarkes Stradford, who rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns, had a 66-yard punt return for the initial score, and receiver Melvin Rouse added nine receptions for 129 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. Quarterback Bates Jones was an efficient 14-of-19 passing for 179 yards.
Providence Day amassed 319 yards, but only 125 in the first half as Latin’s defense limited the Chargers’ scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, the Hawks took advantage of their chances with Jones, Stradford and Rouse providing the spark.
Latin scored 28 points in the second quarter to seize a 35-7 lead at halftime.
Rouse had a major hand in the outburst, scoring on passes of 20, 10 and 32 yards from Jones, the latter coming with seven seconds left in the half. Rouse hauled down all but four of Latin’s completions during that span, and Jones connected on 13 of 18 passes for 171 yards and three scores. He also ran for 40 yards on six carries.
Records: Providence Day is 2-4. Charlotte Latin is 6-0.
Worth mentioning: Latin ran for 161 yards in the first half. Providence Day running back Gabe Montgomery rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, with 77 yards after halftime.
