Mooresville (8-3) at West Mecklenburg (8-3), 7 p.m. (4AA playoffs): Running back Donshel Jetton leads a Mooresville team that is 8-1 since a slow start. The Blue Devils’ defense will be a tough test for quarterback Richard Latimer and the explosive West Meck offense.
Mallard Creek (8-2) at Hough (7-4), 7 p.m. (4AA): Mallard Creek trounced Hough 42-21 on Oct. 6, and the visiting Mavericks are opening a quest for a fourth straight state championship. With a bottom-half seed, Mallard Creek must win several playoff games on the road.
Winston-Salem Parkland (7-4) at Charlotte Catholic (10-1), 7:30 p.m. (4A): The visiting Mustangs lost their final three regular-season games, allowing an average of nearly 50 points a game. Catholic, meanwhile, has won 10 straight and begins a drive for its second straight state title.
Statesville (5-6) at Weddington (8-3), 7:30 p.m. (3AA): Weddington has allowed an average of eight points a contest in its past seven games. Statesville recovered from a rocky start, winning five of its past six.
Concord (8-3) at Marvin Ridge (6-5), 7:30 p.m. (3AA): The host Mavericks have several major-college recruits and will be a tough first-round test for quarterback Jacob Irby and the Spiders.
Fayetteville Village Christian (6-5) at Statesville Christian (10-2), 7:30 p.m.: The host Lions play for the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III title. Lions junior Canaan Cox has rushed for nearly 2,200 yards and 33 touchdowns in a spectacular season.
Gaffney (6-4) at Northwestern (9-1), 7:30 p.m. (S.C. 5A): Perennial state title contender Northwestern, led by quarterback Gage Moloney, must guard against overconfidence. The Trojans beat Gaffney 47-2 during the regular season.
