Hough High junior Ashlynn Serepca is the N.C. Gatorade girls’ soccer player of the year for the second straight season.
A 5-foot-5 forward, Serepca had 25 goals and 35 assists, leading her team to the 4A state quarterfinals. Serepca is a member of the U.S. Soccer Under-18 Women’s National Team and is a two-time MECKA 4A Conference Player of the Year. She concluded her junior season with 82 goals and 68 assists in her high school soccer career.
Serepca, who also was named to the N.C. Soccer Coaches All-State team, carries a weighted 4.76 grade-point average. She has committed to play collegiately at Virginia.
“This season I feel like Ashlynn received more attention from other teams trying to game-plan against her,” said A.L. Brown High coach Chase Nifong. “She didn’t have as many goals as last season, but she found ways to be involved by assisting her teammates and making them better.”
As a Gatorade Player of the Year, Ashlynn can select a national or local youth sports organization to receive a grant as part of the Gatorade Play It Forward program. Each Gatorade Player of the Year state winner receives a $1,000 grant to donate and will have the chance to enter for an additional $10,000 spotlight grant by writing a brief essay explaining why their selected organization deserves additional support. Twelve spotlight grants – one for each sport – will be announced throughout the year.
