East Mecklenburg High pitcher Luke Little won a battle of pitchers Wednesday afternoon, throwing four innings of no-hit ball in the Eagles 3-1 Southwestern 4A victory over visiting Porter Ridge.
Little, 2-0 on the season, struck out 10, and reliever Michael Bixby got the save.
Porter Ridge starter Brennan Malone allowed only two hits in four innings but got the loss. Price Hargett gave up one hit in two innings of relief pitching.

Alexander Central 2, Hickory 1: Alexander Central scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning, the first extra inning, to win. Josh Lafone was 2-for-3 for Alexander (3-0).
Ardrey Kell 3, Marvin Ridge 2: The Knights went on the road and won this neighborhood rivalry. Ardrey Kell took a 3-0 lead before Marvin Ridge scored twice in the bottom of the sixth.

Charlotte Catholic 7, Unionville Piedmont 5: The Cougars opened their season with a Southern Carolina 3A victory on the road.
Independence 11, Hopewell 0: Sophomore Ryan Mangum pitched a shutout for the Patriots. Independence batter’s Bubba Comer (3-for-5), CJ Brown (2-for-4) and Ryan Mangum (2-for-4) had strong nights.
Indian Land 10, Fairfield Central 0: Nolan Bolt had a five inning shutout. He struck out 13 and allowed one hit.

Lake Norman Charter 7, East Lincoln 3: Sophomore catcher Max Doherty had a 3-run shot for Lake Norman Charter in the seventh inning. Starter Logan Ansted got the win, pitching five innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven.
Lawndale Burns 8, Gastonia Ashbrook 1: Burns ran its record to 3-0 in this Southwestern 3A game. The Bulldogs have scored 31 runs in those games.
Lincoln Charter 3, Cherryville 0: Pitcher Ryan Restino threw a perfect game in the win. Restino, a junior left hander, retired 21 straight batters and struck out five.

Olympic 9, North Mecklenburg 1: The host Trojans improved their record to 3-1. It was North Mecklenburgs opener.
Providence 3, Hough 2: Will Palinkas pitched the Panthers (2-1) to victory over the Huskies (1-2), in a meeting of teams expected to contend for their conference championships. Ethan Reese earned a save in relief for Providence.
R-S Central 10, Shelby 0: The Hilltoppers scored seven times in the top of the seventh inning, breaking open a close Southwestern 2A game.
Salisbury 5, West Davidson 3: Charles Lippard pitched a three-hitter for the Hornets in this Central Carolina 2A game.
Weddington 8, Monroe Parkwood 7: The host Warriors took this Southern Carolinas 3A contest. Each team is 1-1 on the season.
