Booster by the pitching of Chloe Thomas, Richburg Lewisville won the South Carolina 1A girls’ softball championship Wednesday evening.
The Lions blanked East Clarendon 3-0, sweeping the best-of-three title series in two games.
Thomas pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight. She bested East Clarendon pitcher Marleigh Floyd, who also tossed a two-hitter.
Lewisville scored all its runs in the fifth inning. Two runs scored on a throwing error. With runners at first and second, the Lions’ Lauren Crocker hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield, but the East Clarendon third baseman threw wildly to first, allowing two runs to score.
Crocker then scored on a sacrifice by Alexis Odum.
