West Charlotte is the new No. 1 team in the Observer’s Sweet 16 basketball poll.
The Lions have spent more weeks at No. 1 than any other team since the newspaper began the poll in the 1984-85 season. West Charlotte had a big home game Monday night with No. 8 Butler.
Hough moved up three spots to No. 2 after upsetting preseason No. 1 Lake Norman 55-50 last week. Lake Norman dropped to No. 4.
One new team is in this week: Harding (1-0) jumps in at No. 15 after an 86-49 season-opening win against Garinger, sparked by 24 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks by Jarlen McDonald.
Never miss a local story.
