Matt Wisler pitched a complete game and Braeden Schlehuber had two hits and two RBIs, as the Gwinnett Braves topped the Charlotte Knights 7-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday.
Charlotte had runners on first and second in the top of the seventh, but Kevan Smith hit into a forceout to end the game.
Wisler (2-1) picked up the win after he struck out four while allowing five runs and eight hits over seven innings.
Charlotte took the lead in the first when Smith hit a three-run home run.
Gwinnett answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs to take the lead for good. The Braves sent 10 men to the plate as Blake Lalli and Schlehuber hit two-run doubles en route to the three-run lead.
The Braves tacked on another run in the sixth when Emilio Bonifacio hit an RBI single, driving in Schlehuber.
Charlotte saw its comeback attempt come up short after Leury Garcia hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to cut the Gwinnett lead to 7-5.
Carson Fulmer (0-1) went one inning, allowing six runs and five hits while walking two in the International League game.
Garcia singled three times, driving in a run and also scoring one for the Knights.
