05/01/2014 6:34 PM
This Week’s Race
What: 188 laps or 500.08 miles
Where: Talladega Superspeedway, a 2.66-mile highly banked tri-oval in Talladega, Ala.
When: 1 p.m. Sunday
Radio: Motor Racing Network
Last year’s winner: David Ragan
Also this week: Aaron’s 312, Nationwide Series, Talladega Superspeedway, 3 p.m. Saturday, ESPN.
Worth mentioning: Fox will televise live Saturday’s Sprint Cup Series knockout qualifying – the first time the format has been used at one of NASCAR’s superspeedways. The format pits drivers against each other during three segments and, like the racing at Talladega and Daytona Beach, Fla., drivers can draft with one another to produce a faster speed.
Joey Logano: Remember when he was “washed up” at Joe Gibbs Racing at age 22?
Jeff Gordon: Has done everything but win this season and that’s coming soon.
Kevin Harvick: At every new team he works with this season, he wins.
Matt Kenseth: Still lacking a win but was far closer at Richmond, Va., than he has been any other time this season.
Team Penske: Does any other team at this point look more prepared for the Chase?
Clint Bowyer: When it rains, it pours for Bowyer at Richmond of late.
Jimmie Johnson: He got far more satisfaction out of his 5K run Sunday morning after the race.
Weather: Six of nine NASCAR race weekends have been affected by bad weather and counting.
