The Charlotte Hornets’ summer-league roster will include college basketball’s top shot-blocker last season and two players with local ties.
In addition to the obvious inclusions – second-season forward Cody Zeller and first-round picks Noah Vonleh and P.J. Hairston – the 14-player group includes Arizona State center Jordan Bachynski, Davidson forward DeMon Brooks and European pro Jamie Skeen, who played high school ball at North Mecklenburg.
Bachynski averaged 4.03 blocks per game, tops in college basketball last season. The 7-foot-2 Canadian auditioned for the Hornets before the draft, but was not among the 60 selections June 26.
The 6-7 Brooks will have to make the transition from college post player to more of a small forward to make it as a pro. Skeen, who played on the then-Bobcats summer team a year ago, played in Italy last season.
Never miss a local story.
The summer roster will practice in Charlotte next week before flying to Las Vegas for the start of league play July 11 against the Golden State Warriors (8:30 p.m.).
The Hornets play the Sacramento Kings July 13 at 6 p.m. and the New York Knicks July 14 at 4 p.m. Additional games will be determined by a tournament format.
Associate head coach Patrick Ewing will coach the Hornets’ games in summer league.
