• Charlotte Hornets coach Steve Clifford said he’d continue bringing small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist off the bench at least through Saturday’s home game against the Brooklyn Nets. That’s about the conditioning Kidd-Gilchrist lost over the 3 1/2 weeks he didn’t play. Clifford said Kidd-Gilchrist was out of gas after 20 minutes Wednesday against the Boston Celtics.
• If the Hornets have done nothing else with this early schedule, they have eaten up plenty of their toughest games. After Friday’s visit to Memphis, the Hornets are done with the Western Conference-elite Grizzlies, Warriors and Trail Blazers. They have one game left each against the Mavericks and Clippers.
Never miss a local story.
• Pau Gasol is known as being the brother with the wider skill set, but Marc isn’t far behind as far as being more than just a big body. The Grizzlies run much of their offense through him in the high post and he consistently finds shooters open along the baseline. Big men don’t generally learn to be such good facilitators.
