Height: 6-5. Weight: 240 pounds.
Position: Wide receiver
College: Florida State
What he offers: Size and a big target. Benjamin is the biggest receiver on the Panthers roster, and Cam Newton has had trouble with accuracy in the past. Benjamin will give Newton a big target on sure routes.
Why he fits: Benjamin is a raw prospect. He doesn’t run clean routes, but the Panthers brought in veteran receivers for this reason. Carolina can manage expectations, allow Benjamin to learn and grow in the system and hope he turns into a big-time possession receiver in two or three years.
Worth mentioning: Benjamin had 15 touchdowns last season for the national champions, including the game-winning score against Auburn in the title game.
Bet you didn’t know: Benjamin helped his Glades Central (Fla.) High team to the state title game but couldn’t play due to Florida’s high school athletic association’s rules. The association doesn’t allow players over the age of 19 years, 9 months to compete athletically, so he missed the final two games of his senior season.
What they’re saying: “Thanks to the Panthers drafting Kelvin Benjamin, Cam Newton doesn't have to do THIS all year.” - ESPN’s SportsNation on Twitter.
