Three questions with Carolina Panthers center Ryan Kalil:
Q. How important was it for the offense to get Cam Newton back running the read option?
A. I think that’s huge. Obviously you want your starting quarterback out there, especially from an operational standpoint. But on the other hand, we have Derek Anderson, who I think is one of the best backups in the league. But it’s nice to have Cam out there and see him in full stride.
Q. Thoughts on where the offensive line stands at this point?
Never miss a local story.
A. I still think we have some work. There’s definitely going to be some growing pains with this group compared to some of the older groups we’ve had. But we have some really tremendous talent that I think is going to set us up in years to come. I’ve been really happy with all the guys that have been in there. Byron at left tackle, Trai coming in first-timer, he’s been doing a really good job.
Q. What’s the biggest thing you guys accomplished here?
A. Just getting back to some of the stuff we want to do. You lose some of the guys we had that were in the system, they know what they’re doing. So the biggest thing was we’re going to throw a lot of information at a lot of these new guys, a lot of younger guys, and see how well they can manage it. And for the most part we didn’t miss a beat. That’s a huge accomplishment for us because you don’t want to have to start back from ABCs. So we’re able to do a lot of the stuff that we built on last year and implement it this camp.
