Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen missed practice on Thursday with a leg injury.
Coach Ron Rivera said a player stepped on Olsen’s calf on the last day of training camp in Spartanburg. Olsen expects to play in Sunday’s home exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Also, rookie defensive end Kony Ealy returned to practice after missing two days with a mid-foot sprain. Linebacker Chase Blackburn tweaked his back and sat out.
Wide receiver De’Andre Presley had surgery for a stress fracture in his shin. Rivera did not indicate if the team will waive Presley and place him on injured reserve or keep him on the roster.
Observations: Giants general manager Jerry Reese nominated Panthers GM Dave Gettleman to participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge while wearing a speedo, according to Newsday. Gettleman worked with Reese for nearly 14 years before becoming the Panthers GM. The Ice Bucket Challenge raises awareness for ALS. ...Tight end Ed Dickson ran into Gatorade coolers after catching a ball near the sideline at the beginning of practice. He got up and was uninjured. Josh Norman and Bene’ Benwikere each had an interception.
