Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton stayed well after practice Wednesday to work with coaches and receiver Kelvin Benjamin.
During training camp, Newton often worked after practice with his receivers, but since the season began that has been much more infrequent.
Wednesday, he stayed on the practice field for more than 30 minutes to work with quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey, offensive coordinator Mike Shula and Benjamin.
“They were obviously working on something they wanted to (work on),” Rivera said. “Again, this is an indication of what our guys are like. This is what has been going on for four years now. It doesn’t matter where we are. Guys know there’s work to be done and they stay out and do the extra work.
Never miss a local story.
“That’s what we’ve had. We’ve had guys that do these things and it’s been paying off for some of these guys. It’s a whole new group of guys compared to last year.”
Newton usually addresses the media on Wednesdays, but because of his extra work session, he will talk on Thursday this week.
