In the first quarter of Carolina’s 34-13 loss to New Orleans, Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan blew past the Carolina offensive line on Sunday and dragged quarterback Cam Newton to the turf.
In the locker room after the game, Jordan just flat-out dragged Newton.
“Clearly he’s trying to be more of a pocket passer and I’m OK with it,” Jordan said with a smirk. “Perfectly fine with it. I mean there was one time he scooted off for 13 yards and it was very Cam-esque, but at the same time he wanted to be a pocket passer.
“Our coach gave up some egregious stat (about Cam’s turnovers) and we added three onto that.”
Never miss a local story.
Newton eventually finished the day with the third-worst passer rating of his career, throwing three interceptions and no touchdowns. While he did rush for a three-yard score, Newton mostly stayed in the pocket.
Anytime he tried to scoot out, we showed up on his high heels. Not that he wears high heels – I don’t think so yet, right?

Those three interceptions will look the worst at a quick glance at the stat sheet, but they hardly tell the whole story of Newton’s afternoon.
In the first half, the former NFL MVP was just 6-for-10 for 21 yards with an interception. Except for one drive that ended with his three-yard touchdown scamper, Newton didn’t produce much more throughout the rest of the game.
But as if mocking Newton’s play wasn’t enough, Jordan also made fun of Cam’s notoriously flamboyant attire.
“Anytime he tried to scoot out, we showed up on his high heels. Not that he wears high heels – I don’t think so yet, right?” Jordan asked. “I mean, he’s gone with the grandma hat and the onesie. The Coachella onesie?”
Newton’s postgame outfits have been a subject of national attention his entire tenure with Carolina. In the past, he’s worn extravagant colors, hats of all shapes and sizes, and a number of other accessories including a flowered shirt and shorts combination that appeared to be all one piece.
A reporter interrupted Jordan’s joke and told him the outfit he was thinking of was a “romper,” a loose unitard-like garment typically worn by women that recently has been released in men’s sizes and styles.
“Oh the romper, the romp-him?” Jordan said. “We romped him, woo.”
