Backup cornerback Teddy Williams ran a long way to intercept a Joe Webb pass during team drills, but pulled his groin in the process. Webb badly overthrew Keyarris Garrett in the end zone, and Williams tracked it down before going to the ground and calling over a trainer.
“My groin kind of grabbed on me. I’ll be back, though,” said Williams, who hopes to play in next week’s third exhibition against New England.
In other injury notes, defensive tackle Kyle Love was placed in the concussion protocol after getting hit during Monday’s practice in Spartanburg.
“Kyle took a pretty good pop the other day so we had to put him in the protocol,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. “Hopefully he’ll feel better in the next day or two.”
Never miss a local story.
Wide receiver Brenton Bersin ran for the first time since injuring his ribs during the exhibition opener at Baltimore last week. Bersin worked on the side with the team’s other injured players, a group that included defensive ends Rakim Cox (back) and Larry Webster (hamstring), linebacker Ben Jacobs (ankle), offensive lineman Chris Scott (shoulder) and cornerback Leonard Johnson (Achilles).
