Aside from their teams meeting at Super Bowl 50, Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock have at least one other thing in common:
“The Final Countdown,” the 1986 song released by Swedish rock band Europe, features on both their playlists.
Why does this matter?
Both mayors have partnered with Spotify to create exclusive playlists for fans of their respective home teams, according to Jennifer Zawadzinski with the OutCast Agency, a marketing firm with offices in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The firm’s clientele include Spotify, Airbnb, Lyft and Instagram.
The songs Roberts and Hancock listed might give you some insight into their musical tastes. For instance, among Hancock’s picks is gritty, indie music from a Denver band, The Fray, and James Brown’s “I Feel Good.” Roberts is a fan of DJ Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win” and “Till I Collapse” by Eminem.
