Pfeiffer will go for its first NCAA Division II men’s soccer championship when the Falcons face Cal Poly Pomona at 4 p.m. Saturday in Pensacola, Fla.
The Falcons (24-0) have played two consecutive close games to advance to the title match –beating Palm Beach (Fla.) Atlantic 5-4 in the quarterfinals and Charleston (W.Va.) 2-1 in double overtime in Thursday’s semifinals.
Jaime Siaj scored in the 104th minute against Charleston to send the Falcons to the national final.
“We fought to the end,” Siaj said. “I was in the right spot at the right time. Any other teammate could have been there to be the one to win it for us.”
Never miss a local story.
Nathan Regis scored his 30th goal of the season to give Pfeieffer a 1-0 lead at the game’s 31-minute mark. Charleston’s Will Roberts equalized with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.
But now it’s on to the championship game for Pfeiffer. Cal Poly Pomona (17-2-3) beat Rockhurst (Ill.) 2-1 Thursday.
“The one thing that we have in our program is we have goal scorers and we have heart,” Falcons coach Bob Reasso said.
