Rory McIlroy became the 11th of the world’s top 32 players to commit to play in the Wells Fargo Championship at Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club.
McIlroy, the tournament’s 2010 champion, informed the tournament committee Wednesday that he will join others in the top 32, including No. 6 Justin Rose, No. 10 Zach Johnson, No. 12 Bubba Watson, No. 21 Webb Simpson, No. 22 Patrick Reed, No. 24 Jim Furyk, No. 28 Hideki Matsuyama, No. 28 Jamie Donaldson, No. 31 Bill Haas and No. 32 Hunter Mahan at Quail Hollow from May 1-4.
Defending champion Derek Ernst has also committed, as have other former champs Furyk, Sean O’Hair and Vijay Singh.
Donaldson, a Welshman who has won twice on the European Tour this season and won the 2013 Abu Dhabi HSBC tournament, received a tournament exception.
Tickets are available at www.WellsFargoChampionship.com or at the tournament’s kiosk at SouthPark Mall.
