Dustin Johnson commits to Quail Hollow tournament

Dustin Johnson became the latest top player Wednesday to commit to the Wells Fargo Championship at Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club. Johnson, a Columbia native who played at Coastal Carolina, is ranked 10th in the world.
The tournament, scheduled for May 1-4, now includes 12 of the world’s top 32 players. Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, who is ranked 41st and a is seven-time winner on the European Tour, and No. 42 Matt Every will also play.
Every recently won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, his first PGA Tour victory. David Scott• Phil Mickelson announced his intention to play at this week’s Houston Open through a post on his website. He withdrew from last week’s Texas Open after pulling a muscle in his right side.
